Little Miss A has just woken up from an almost two-hour nap, her room now filled with the soothing scent of Euky Bear Sniffly Nose Inhalant, thanks to the Euky Bear Steam Vaporiser.

It’s been a challenging week for both mummy and baby, as Little Miss A battles her first proper cold.

With winter in full swing and bugs seemingly everywhere, it was only a matter of time before Little Miss A caught something.

After a few long days and sleepless nights filled with congestion, endless sniffles, and extra fussiness, Babcia* and I decided to visit the local pharmacy after a morning GP appointment (primarily for me, but the doctor kindly assessed Miss A too).

*Babcia means “grandma” in Polish, and she is Miss A’s beloved grandma.

As a parent—especially a new one—there’s nothing worse than seeing your little one unwell. Here are a few essentials that are currently helping to get Miss A back to her normal, cheeky self.

Please note that these are the products working for us, as recommended by our GP. Always consult your healthcare professional for any medical advice.

Though there were no spoonfuls of sugar in sight, we definitely left the pharmacy this morning with an exuberant bag of supplies.

And a shopping receipt to match! Yikes … $$

So, what was in the bag?

  • Infant Panadol and infant Nurofen. Our GP recommended Panadol for daytime relief, especially for easing Miss A’s pain, discomfort, or fever, while Nurofen is ideal for nighttime, helping her sleep more comfortably.
  • Saline nasal spray to clear Miss A’s tiny nose: We opted to try different brands and picked up both Flo Baby Saline Spray and FESS Little Noses Saline Spray. The latter is especially convenient, as it comes with a small nasal aspirator.
  • Vicks Baby Balsam. Our GP recommended to rub this onto Miss A’s chest, neck and back, and soles of her feet to help soothe and provide extra comfort.
  • Humidifier/vaporiser. To aid Miss A’s breathing, especially as she sleeps (during nap time and at night) we also bought a vaporiser. We went with the Euky Bear Warm Steam Vaporiser, mainly because it was the cheaper option when compared with the Vicks branded option. Along with this we bought the Euky Bear Sniffly Nose Inhalant and, well, Miss A’s room now smells almost like a health retreat 🙂

Along with all the above, we’re also ensuring Miss A has her bottles a little more frequently. With a stuffy nose, her appetite isn’t huge, so more frequent bottles with albeit a slightly lesser volume are helping to ensure she still gets her nutritional intake. We’re also ensuring Miss A sips on water regularly across the day as well, to prevent dehydration.

So, while Miss A doesn’t necessarily love having her little nose wiped all the time — all the snot means all the tissues, bibs and face cloths — the above recommendations are starting to make a real difference in helping our precious baby return to her normal, cheeky, energetic little self.
